This morning I arrived to work and noticed that someone had taken my chair and the keyboard from my normal workstation, so I plodded off in search of a suitable habitat. I finally arrived at another cubicle that had all the comforts of my last... With the exception of one-- A mouse pad. Everyday it seems that someone steals my mouse pad. I am constantly looking for one, else I bring my own. Seems that my workplace has a shortage of them, so this hardship got me thinking. I began down the road of wishing I had a nice pad of my own... suddenly I realized that mice would like a nice pad of their own too.

So, all that to say; this is what happens when you have too much time on your hands at work.

A friend called me about an ad on Craig's list.. He was interested in the leather couch and since I was less than a block away, I told him I'd check it out.

The Craig's List ad said:

Free estate items. Leather couch and loveseat. Another 3 seat couch and love seat, kitchenware and dishes and misc. Knick knacks and pictures in frames. Today from 10am to 11am... Please no emails back, just be there.

9:50 AM I pulled up to the house... and saw this:

I walked around and talked to some of the people there.

Right at 10 am, the garage door opened..

And EVERYONE RAN...

Before the garage door was all the way open,

two big guys jumped on the couch and said:

"I got it first, I got it first! IT'S MINE!"

The guy that jumped best, is just out of the frame on the left.
The one that was yelling is in the red.
The lady on the right was yelling at him.

This is the most exciting day I've had in a while.

This gives me ideas.. If people would kill each other for a leather couch, just think what they would do for something better....

I have 2 online college courses. I usually take the test on the very last day, and somehow, I’m actually ready to take the test today, a full 3 days before the last possible day.. But as I got ready to take the test, I realized that my pencil was broken!

OH NO! I cried.

Why do I need a pencil for an online class? I don’t know.. I might, and well, you never know when you need a sharp pencil. On my way to the sharpener, I realized that my room needed some cleaning!

So, I pulled out the vacuum and began to sweep.. As I swept, I glanced out my window.

Imagine my shock to find that there were weeds growing. Me, oh my.. I said to myself. I must get those pulled before they get out of hand!

Shortly after pulling all the weeds, I noticed the lawn needed to be mowed, and knowing that a thing like mowing shouldn't be put off, I quickly sprung to action.

After all that hard work, I sat down to a nice bowl of popcorn to reward myself for a job well done.
Joe suddenly burst into my room, yelling at me that it's time to play chess. Although I needed to do my test, I was willing to be selfless and put my sibling first.

We played.... and played.. and

And before we knew it, the clock struck nine.

As I was heading to the pencil sharpener, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that the living room needed to be straightened up. After all that work, I heard Beth call..

Beth's wall: the only place you can find "Seth." A random picture she displays, to all who are brave enough to enter her room.

"I didn't call you," she replies. "Get back to work," she says.

Just as I was about to sharpen my pencil, so I could finally take my test.. I noticed that the dishes needed to be washed. Out of the goodness of my heart, I took the task upon myself.

As I scrubbed all the pots, pans, plates, forks, spoons, knives, and anything else I could find in the dishwasher, I suddenly realized that my motorcycle needed to be washed! Although I knew that my school was calling, the pencil needed to be sharpened, but washing the motorcycle was a task that couldn't be put off.

After a fine job-well-done, I selflessly cut up an orange and shared it with the family. Although they were all sleeping, I know that they would have enjoyed eating it as much as me.

Finally, I was able to sharpen that pencil.....

I finished sharpening, and looked up.. lo and behold, I was almost out of day.

Imagine that.. well, I still have two full days to do my test....

UH OH! I broke my pencil.

Have you ever heard the term “jump ship?”

Generally, if you jump ship, you leave a job or activity suddenly before it is finished, especially to go and do something for someone else. I think that this term has a lot to do with commitment. A person that is committed to what they are doing, will stay with the task till the bitter end. Someone that is committed will see and understand the difficulty they will face in their commitment and prepare for it.

Back in the days when I worked at Lakeside Shopping Center, there was a tunnel under the mall. The tunnel was used as a loading dock for all the deliveries to the stores. The tunnel was built poorly, so water from the parking lot would drain down into the tunnel. This water would almost never dry, and therefore contributed a nice thin layer of scum that was very slippery. (It also contributed a very strange odor, but that’s a different story)

We would often use this slippery surface for our enjoyment. Lakeside shopping center had a golf cart, for plowing sidewalks, doing trash rounds, and just getting around the massive 40 Acre piece of land. If you could get the golf cart up to top speed on the down ramp into the tunnel, by the time you hit the water / scum, with some careful braking and steering wheel maneuvers, the golf cart would do a perfect 360. While this could be potentially dangerous, I had done it enough times, that I was quite proficient.

One day, one of my friends came over to Lakeside, so I could help him work on his car. I was still on the job doing trash, and offered him a ride down into the tunnel… I saw the water… The temptation was too great. I was at top speed at the end of the ramp, and I told him to hang on! “We’re going to do a spin.” Before I knew what was happening, he jokingly said “no way” and promptly jumped off the speeding golf cart.

The next few seconds happened so quickly that I’m not quite sure what all happened. I am sure of one thing: a person can’t instantly start running 20 MPH. I stomped on the brake and looked back. A cloud of dust enveloped a still rolling human figure. When I arrived on the scene, blood was dripping from his scraped hands, as he said… “Well…. that was kinda stupid, wasn’t it?”

My friend wasn’t committed to our golf cart trip.

A Box of Donuts

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been going to the store to buy donuts. I buy the pre-packaged donuts. I show up almost every Thursday at the exact same time each week. Each week I see the same chap walking out with donuts, as I walk in to buy my donuts. Occasionally we share a few comments. Often our exchange sounds like this: Me: “Hi, any good donuts today?” Other gentleman: “Yes, but there aren’t any left.”

Last week, I arrived earlier than normal, and I found that the donut selection was much better. Instead of finding the normal boxful of cake donuts, I found an assortment of many different pastries, including cinnamon rolls. I scooped up the box, and purchased them. On my way out of the store, I walked past the gent on his way in. He shot me a strange glance, and the exchange was as follows: Gentleman: “Hi, any good donuts today?” Me: “Yes, but there aren’t any left.”

Today, I didn’t arrive early, and I met the gent on his way out of the store, faithfully holding his box of donuts. He looked at me, I looked at him, and for a few moments we shared an awkward stare. He broke the silence by saying “I fought in Vietnam; once, I killed a guy that tried to steal my breakfast. I really like donuts for breakfast.” I looked at him, and then replied: “I don’t like waking up early anyway." He smiled and walked away. I think I'm going to wear a mask to the store next week.

What, you may ask, do these have in common? That's right, they are all redundant.
I recently watched a commercial for "Ninja Assassin" a new movie that came out late last year. I really wish I could have been there when they decided on the name of this movie.. I bet it went something like this..

Producer 1 "We should name it something cool, like Return of the Ninja"
Producer 2 "Ninjas are cool."
Producer 1 "Yeah, people like ninjas"
Producer 3 "I like people that kill people.. what do you call those?"
Producer 1 "Those are called assassins"
Producer 3 "We should use that in the title.."
Producer 2 "How about Return of the Assassin?"
Producer 1 "How about Return of the Ninja Assassin?"

.......all pause.. looking at each other.....

Unison "NINJA ASSASSIN!"

My only question is.. aren't ninjas already assassins? like isn't the point of a ninja to go around killing people and getting away? So, isn't the title of this move sorta redundant? "Ninja Ninja? Killer Assassin??

Beth and I went to the "H-Mart" our local Asian marketplace. While there, we found many fantastic and mysterious things!

Apparently you can purchase children and family pictures here.

We tried to purchase a baby, but they just looked at us like we were crazy.

With around 80 different definitions for "pass"

"Pass-O-Guava" may have been a bad choice as a naming convention.

5 gallons? is that enough? Better buy 2.

I can't think of how many times I've been to the supermarket and

they've been out of fresh plastic leg.

Beth and I looked at this bag full of little "V" shaped things, we looked at each other,

and at the same time said "What is this stuff?"

Oh! it's SOY STUFF!

Apparently the label makers didn't know either.

Trust me, there's nothing better than some good squid crackers washed

down with an good tall glass of Pass-O-Guava.

And to wash the crackers down, there's nothing like a fistful of tiny dried fish.

And to wash the fish down, try some EYEBALLS!

Ok, they aren't actually eyeballs.. they are little snails.

Nothing says "good meal" to me like a good plucked duck head.

Nothing better than a good cow stomach to cure what ails you.

Well, it's officially here, and I personally know many people that are eager to get their hands on a copy. Personally, I'm not convinced. I mean, sure, throughout my use these last few months, the OS has been pretty solid, but my problem is that I don't see enough of a difference between it and Vista to make me want to run out and buy a copy.

Quite honestly, I think the new "features" should have been released as a service pack, but since Microsoft let Vista be shamed and slandered so heavily, they had to come out with a whole "new" operating system.

Ok, enough griping, I'll get on to what I like.

It has a slightly smaller footprint overall, and it seems a little more snappy. The speed increase is really felt in the low end laptops and netbooks. Vista was just too bulky for them, and finally people are realizing that XP is just really old. The GUI (graphical user interface) is pretty nice, and offers some cool eye candy, however, lacks usability.

User Account Control (UAC), has really been revamped, and is much less annoying than the version in Vista. Microsoft really should have thought this one through the first time, UAC on Vista was more annoying than popup adds on the internet.

The new themes are pretty cool.

Gadgets finally don't require the stupid "sidebar" to be running all the time, thus, the gadgets use much less system recourses.

Sleep and resume functions are a HUGE improvement over Vista. When I would put my computer to "sleep" when I had Vista installed, it would often (about 20% of the time) fail to wake up. When the computer did wake up, it usually took almost a full minute to be usable again. and sometimes, it would still fail to be fully functional, requiring a reboot. So far (about 60 sleep and resume cycles) Windows 7 has only failed to wake up about 3 times.

Jump lists are pretty useful, however, I still find myself using the "search" function more.

A few programs that I use often aren't operational on Win 7 (daemon tools, adobe illustrator has some issues, but so far I have been able to find workarounds)

Honestly, I would probably not pay full price for this thing. I don't find the new features worth the $70+ that it will cost to upgrade from Vista. I would suggest it for those that are finally realizing that XP is 8 years old.

I was searching a while back for some info about the actual size of money, I wanted to know how many dollar bills would fit inside a semi truck, and I ran into an anti former president Bush website. It's called "Eighty seven billion" and it gives some perspective on how big the piles of money that our former president spent for different things...

The site talks about the different things that the government's money (our money) was spent on. Don't get me wrong here, I totally believe that there was quite a bit of waste, and I'm sure that there was plenty of indiscretion how the money was spent; however, I would like to compare that to the current spending plans of our new President.

Bush took us down the debt hole about 3000 billion.. (yeah, 3000 billion.. or 3 trillion dollars)
Yeah, it's not good, but compared to our new (relatively new anyway) president and his current plan, it's bean sprouts... or something comparatively small.

President Obama's projected plan is around 10000 billion dollars, yes that's right, for the next four years. 10 trillion dollars versus what Bush spent. While Bush spent a lot.. about 1.5 trillion per term I think it's a little less than President Obama...

Man, Bush was really plowing our country under.. that's really reckless spending!
[can you see the sarcasm?]

Perspective is a good thing to have, but only if you are able to ignore fact. Otherwise it's just plain scary.

315 billion doesn't look so big anymore, now does it? Perspective?
315 billion dollars is only 1/31th of the President's current prospective spending.

This is what happens when you take a stock truck up a trail that is usually only traveled by modified jeeps:

2 wheels off the ground (one front, one back)
Twisting frame
Can't shut door
Ear to ear grin
Cool pictures

After I got off this section, the door was able to shut normally again.
Totally worth it.

Tractor!

An International Cub 149 tractor. It has been sitting up at the shop for about 2 years. It also has been on my mind every time I go up there. Every time I saw it I instantly thought that it was going to be a huge job. Well, I brought it home yesterday, and with Joe's help I finally am almost finished. It's running and I hope to have the mowing deck in operation tomorrow. (The real reason Joe was helping(he's hoping to use it on the lawn))

I leave a little project in the shop of Tiffany plaza, and it builds in my mind how hard it is going to be to fix it. I look back on the last year, and how helpful it would have been to have done something with the tractor. I mean, it only took about 7 hours to fix... I spent more time thinking about how horrible it was going to be than I did fixing it.

Stupid.

After one year, and over eighty cartoons, I must congratulate myself on such a good job. I think that this is the longest I have stayed with a project.

That's right, if you haven't guessed it, Stick With It! is one year old. (a little more if you take into account the long hours of thinking about it and doing all the market research)

To celebrate I have drawn a new banner for it, I plan to hire a band, and I also plan to take myself out for breakfast! Should be a pretty good party.

A little hockey never hurt anyone, right?

After spending a few more hours online, I found that Strognature indeed did have a website, and that they actually had directions for the product they sent me.
I printed the directions off, and I set to work.

I was only able to find 2 different sets of directions for my particular set.

The first was for a nifty coke bottle holder.

The second was for a cool disguise.

This arrived in the mail, I had been expecting a package, but this wasn't it.
I tore into it happily, but to my horror it didn't make any sense.

I searched for the company on Google, but I received no results.

The package contained:
The end to a Cat5 cable, a baggie of 4 computer screws, some kind of silicone fan housing,
and a length of wire encapsulation thing.

Ever think about the enormous power behind and tornado or a hailstorm?

God, the creator of the weather is much more powerful than any storm. His glory spans the heavens, and I can't even begin to explain it.
God created heaven and earth, knows everything, can measure the sands of the earth, know everyone perfectly, and is all powerful….. YET! He loves me! This is truly amazing to me.

I found a lot of encouragement in Isaiah 40 this past month, and I figured I'd share some quick thoughts.

In chapter 40 starting in verses 12-14, Isaiah asks some very interesting questions.

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand
and marked off the heavens with a span,
enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure
and weighed the mountains in scales
and the hills in a balance?
13 Who has measured the Spirit of the Lord,
or what man shows him his counsel?
14 Whom did he consult,
and who made him understand?
Who taught him the path of justice,
and taught him knowledge,
and showed him the way of understanding?

Next, Isaiah describes how powerful a God we serve.
"nations are counted by him as less than nothing and emptiness"

15 Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket,
and are accounted as the dust on the scales;
behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust.
16 Lebanon would not suffice for fuel,
nor are its beasts enough for a burnt offering.
17 All the nations are as nothing before him,
they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.

An idol is a null comparison in perspective to God.

18 To whom then will you liken God,
or what likeness compare with him?
19 An idol! A craftsman casts it,
and a goldsmith overlays it with gold
and casts for it silver chains.
20 He who is too impoverished for an offering
chooses wood [8] that will not rot;
he seeks out a skillful craftsman
to set up an idol that will not move.

Here is a list of things that will make your birthday the best EVER.

Start by reciting a brief life history (aprox 1-3 hours)

Next find nearest sibling and do the “victory dance” or fist bump with yourself.

Run around the house yelling “it’s MY birthday and all of y’all be LOSERS!”
Every time you unwrap a present yell “I WIN!”

Look down at one of the opened presents, and with a look of horror and say.. “I didn’t want this.” Hand a present to party attendee, and say “HERE… I DON’T WANT THIS ONE!”

Upon reaching the end of your gifts, ask repeatedly “Is that ALL?”

Start playing roughly with presents.. Upon breaking a gift come back to the person that gave it to you and politely ask for another. Make sure that you mention how SOME people actually put a thought into QUALITY.

Anytime you want ANYTHING, just scream at the top of your lungs until someone brings it to you.

Hopefully following this list will lead to the best birthday ever.

Well, if you didn't want it, it is too late now.

Laws are the threads that hold our great nation together. First and foremost, God’s laws: Thou shall not murder, Thou shall not steal, and so on. Next, we have the common law: don’t speed, don’t steal, and don’t invest in stock. The fact is that everyone subjects himself to the laws and government, or he pays the consequences. An interesting point is that we accept the laws that are mandated upon us because we are either enjoying the benefits of them, or we are not affected by them. Jurisprudence: keeps the strong from overpowering the weak, protects those that subject themselves to it, and benefits society as a whole. (generally speaking)

We as citizens make the laws that govern us, we should be happy with the law; the unfortunate fact is that far too many uneducated and ignorant people have the right to vote. We hear the call “GO VOTE” but if we aren’t educated enough to understand what we are voting on, then should we really vote? The obvious problem here is that the common masses are not capable to understand the consequences of their actions if they don’t understand their actions. For example, if a man votes at random because he doesn’t understand what he is voting on, he will probably never know the outcome of the law he voted on.

The problem is that too many laws are created just because they sound like a good idea. The main idea is that people may decide on what sounds good before they know the end result. The basic principle of the cell phone law is to get drivers off of their cell phones. I highly doubt this will actually solve much of the problem. I think more likely, more drivers will be fiddling with the wires on their “hands free” devices, trying to untangle a cord, or trying to figure out how to make the Bluetooth connection. This will be an undesired effect of a new law. It won’t solve the problem, nor will it keep people from dying.

I personally would love if laws worked the way they were supposed to. I would like a communistic government. It would be really nice to have everything equal, right? I mean, just think, how many times your sibling has got the iPod YOU deserve! This actually happening in reality is a joke. Power corrupts, and any governmental system is a good show of that. No, I’m not an anarchist, nor do I honestly want a communistic government. I believe that no government can exist without being ordained by God. I follow God, and I believe that he has put this government over me, so I can be subject to it. This doesn’t mean that I follow every law to the letter all the time. I mess up; I am a hypocrite.

A government that does so much to protect the innocent, yet allows abortion, is a government with conflicting interests. Our government is obviously messed up. This shows the duality of government; I.E. what government tries to accomplish with law VS. what they actually achieve.

All that to say… I believe that some laws are good because they protect me from others’ stupidity; however, what laws are going to protect me from the government’s stupidity? Laws are good, but laws that are implemented because of their wonderful “potential” are mostly worthless.
